From the desk of Bates County Sheriff Chad Anderson

On 10/31/2023 Members of the Bates County Sheriff's Office will be out in force to help make Halloween safe for all participants.

Deputies will be giving candy out at each trunk or treat throughout the community. Along with participating in the area's trunk or treats additional deputies will be out in force to ensure that all our registered sex offenders are compliant with RSMo 589.426. Every Sex Offender signed and acknowledged RSMo 589.426 when they registered in Bates County.

The form they sign states, "I understand that I am to avoid all Halloween related contact with Children and remain inside my residence between 5pm and 10:30pm on Halloween unless there is just cause to leave.

I am required to post a sign stating, ' No candy or treats at this residence' and leave all outside residential lighting off after 5pm." Failure to comply with the offender registration requirements is a criminal offense.

For anyone not in compliance, a criminal complaint will be filed with the Prosecutor's Office in regards to the requirements in RSMo. 589.426
