Obituary - Florence “Flossie” Ellen Boyd Huls

Florence “Flossie” Ellen Boyd Huls, born February 13, 1925, in Jackson Center, Pennsylvania. She was the oldest of five children. At age 19, during WWII, she completed registered nurse training in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and served as an Army Nurse until the end of the war.

She then moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she accepted a surgical nurse position. It was there she met her husband of 62 years, Dr. W.T. Huls, they settled in Bluegrass, Iowa where they maintained a rural medical practice for 37 years. They retired to the family farm near Metz, Missouri in 1987. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is preceded in death by her husband and daughter Martha Emily Huls. She is survived by her son Boyd Huls and his wife Dr. Terrie Huls; two grandsons, Dr. Brennan Huls of Wheeling, West Virginia and Eric Huls and his wife Dr. Sandra Huls of Houston, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Autumn and Madelyn of Houston, Texas.

Interment took place in Underwood Cemetery on Saturday, November 25, 2023.
