As a teenager she worked at the drive in where she met Roy. Dorothy married Roy Lee Jones on Easter Sunday, April 13, 1952. When Roy returned from stationing in Orléans, France with the US Army, they moved to North Hollywood CA. They returned back to Nevada and while Roy spent his days driving a truck, she spent her days making their farm house a loving home, caring for her Mother, children and grandchildren, cooking, daily farm chores, gardening and canning. They were famous for canned beats, green onion/tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, corn on the cob, oatmeal cake, noodles and Jones tacos. They moved to their farm in 1965, raising cattle and custom haying, collecting Farmall Tractors along the way. She worked beside Roy daily on their farm. Their years were spent together mowing, baling, hauling and stacking thousands of small square bales of hay in the hottest time of the year. Sometimes they could be seen getting in the third cutting of hay in October. They were married 60 years before Roy’s farm accident in 2013.
She was a lifelong member of the Nevada Assembly of God church. Spending countless hours volunteering, cleaning, and caring for her church and its members. She enjoyed helping with the Vernon County 4H Youth Fair and spend many hours helping in the diner. She was a member of Business Professional Women and was Woman of the Year in 1990. She enjoyed many years and trips while bowling with the Layher Amusement League. She was a faithful visitor of our local nursing homes, and friends. She brought joy to many and never complained when her failing eyesight made those many pleasures more challenging. She would always declare how blessed she was to feel well and have her family close. She thanked the Lord for every day He gave her and always asked for His protection and guidance for her family. She will be missed more than words can express.
