Simmons retires after 27 year law enforcement career

The Bates County Sheriff's Office would like to congratulate Chief Deputy Shayne Simmons on his retirement after serving a 27 year law enforcement career.

Chief Deputy Simmons accepted the position with Bates County in 2018. Chief Deputy Simmons had been retired from Vernon County Sheriff's Office for several months before being recruited to Bates County. Prior to his employment in law enforcement, Chief Deputy Simmons served in the Army and is a Decorated Combat Veteran.

During his service to both Bates County and Vernon County, Chief Deputy Simmons served as the OIC of the CNET Drug Taskforce that served 7 counties in the Western Central Missouri Region. Chief Deputy Simmons also served many of those same counties as an investigator for the Southwest Missouri Major Case Squad.

Today, members of the Sheriff's Office as well as members from other county offices came together to congratulate and celebrate Chief Deputy Simmons on his dedication and service to the citizens of Bates County.

Today, at his retirement cake ceremony, Chief Deputy Simmons was presented with a custom 1911 that the employees pooled together to purchase as a thank you for his guidance and leadership.

We would like to wish Chief Deputy Simmons the very best in his well deserved retirement.
