Obituary - Clara "Jeanette" Russell

Clara Jeanette Russell, age 98 of Nevada, Missouri passed away peacefully at home on January 20, 2024. Jeanette, as everyone knew her, was born March 11, 1925, in Milo, Mo. She was the daughter of Albert E. and Maggie L. Griffith Pilcher. She was the youngest of 10 children. Jeanette married Calvin C. Russell from Deerfield, MO on December 4, 1946, in Fort Scott, Kansas. They spent 60 years together until his passing. She spent most of her life in Vernon County.

Jeanette was a good mother and grandparent. She gave lots of advice and she loved to help her daughter and grandchildren. She loved working out in the garden and tending to the large strawberry patch she had every year. Growing up, she had many different jobs, some of which were sitting with family members when they were sick, helping with the harvests, and restaurant work. She worked at Pokorny's Drug Store in Nevada, she was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader, and did a lot of volunteer work. She worked for many years as a beautician, 6 years in different shops until she owned and operated her own for the next 50 years retiring in 1999.

Survivors include one daughter Linda Sue Pike, El Dorado Springs, MO; and one granddaughter Tanja Wehmeyer (Travis) of El Dorado Springs, MO; two grandsons, Kenneth Pike, El Dorado Springs, MO, and Bradley Pike of El Dorado Springs, MO; one great grandson, Justin Pike (Marcy) of El Dorado Springs, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin C. Russell; one daughter, Patricia Elaine Reno; her parents, Albert and Maggie Pilcher, along with her two sisters and seven brothers.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
