Monty Joe Christopher, age 88 of Butler, Missouri died Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at his home. He was born December 26, 1935 to George Henry and Lelia Poor Christopher in Butler.

Joe, one of ten children, was a lifelong resident of Butler, Missouri where he graduated from Butler High School. Joe had worked for General Motors and Thorco. He was a member of the Virginia United Methodist Church but for the last several years enjoyed watching Joel Osteen. On January 8, 1961 he married Carol Jean McElwain and to this union, four children were born.

Joe was quiet, strong, a hard worker, dedicated, creative and positive. He was very loyal and was a person who always had your back. Joe was known as a jokester, always upbeat and someone who had a way of shedding off negativity. Joe enjoyed gardening, farming, milking cows, raising his cattle and Yorkies and going to cattle shows. Some of his other pastimes were traveling and vacationing, singing and telling stories about the past. Joe enjoyed watching the Chiefs and Royals, comedies, Adam Sandler movies, late night shows and Saturday Night Live. His children say it was a privilege and honor to have him as their dad. He was the best and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Joe is survived by a son, Chad Christopher of Butler, Missouri; two daughters, Debbie Cole and husband Don of Butler, Missouri and Darcie Anderson and fiancé Bob Beilfuss of Overland Park, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Ellis, Hilari, Bethanie, Gabby, Kristopher, Zach, Lacy, Melanie and Ryan; two great-grandchildren, Kimbry and Easton; and a son-in-law, Kelly Craft of Butler. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean Christopher; his daughter, DeAnna Craft; six brothers, George, Moreland, Tom, Wally, Stanley and Bob Christopher; two sisters, Charlotte Ward and Moina Ratliff; and an infant sibling.
