Butler bears claim District Basketball Title with win over the Adrian blackhawks...

There would be a Bates County Team victorious in the Class 3, District 13 championship as the Adrian Blackhawks would face off against the Butler Bears. The Bears come into the match-up on a 10 game win streak, sitting at 20-6 with the 2 seed in the tournament. Adrian comes in at 20-3 , with an 8 game wining streak and the 1 seed in the district. The Blackhawks won the previous matchup earlier this season with a final of 52-38, right out of Christmas break.

Rusow would begin the scoring with a jumper for the Blackhawks after Adrain controlled the tip. Davidson would record a put-back basket to knot it a 2-2. Trumbore would claim Butler’s first lead, but not for long as Kramer would bury a trifecta to spark a 12-4 Adrian run. The Bears would try and calm the Adrian run by going on a 6-0 run of their own to end the quarter and trail 21-16 at the end of 8 minutes.

To start the 2nd period, Kramer would drive and sink a layup, Mallat would follow that up getting fouled on a 3 point shot and going 2/3 from the line to spark a 4-0 Bears run that would see the Bears pull within 3. Rusow would grab a put-back bucket before Carter would drill a three to tie up the game at 25 a piece. 

Out of an Adrian time-out, Tenholder would retake an Adrian lead, and spark a 7-0 Blackhawks run, going up 32-25, forcing a Butler time-out. Out of the time-out, Trumbore drilled home a shot from range and the Bears would go into halftime trialing the Blackhawks 34-31.

Kramer would begin the 2nd half with a pair of free throws to stretch the lead to 4 for the Blackhawks. Trumbore hit a jumper, Kramer elevated for another jump shot, answered back by Payne hitting a 3 to pull back within 2. Trumbore would drive to the basket go back within 2, but Kramer drove to the rack well. It was a 3-0 Bears run to close out the 3rd and pull within in 1, 42-41 going into the 4th and final quarter.

To start the final period, Miller would hammer home a three for the Blackhawks sparking a 5-0 spurt in favor of Adrian before Trumbore drilled a 3 to bring it back to a one possession game, and sparking 5-0 Butler run narrowing the lead to just 1 again. Hamilton would answer, drilling another 3. With just under 3 minutes left, Payne would step up and bury a wide open deep ball to gift the Bears their first lead of the half, 51-50. 

With 45 seconds, Trumbore would go to the line with a chance to cushion the Butler lead, he would hit both, taking a 53-50 lead. Kramer would toe the line for the Blackhawks and put in both, shrinking the lead back to just 1 for the Bears. Trumbore would return to the penalty stripe where he would sink a pair to go back up 3, 55-52. 

Hamilton would toe the line for three throws, and a chance to tie the game back up with with 20 seconds remaining in regulation. Hamilton knocked down the first two, but the third rattled out and Davidson would secure the board for the Bears. The Blackhawk's would instantly foul and send Trumbore back to the stripe. 

Mallett would come up with a massive steal for the Bears, and get the ball back into the hands of Trumbore who would be sent to the line once again where he knocked down a pair and the Bears secured a 59-54 victory and the title of District Champs.

Trumbore led all scores, he accounted for 42 of the Bears 59. Mallatt come up with 3 massive steals for Butler, while Davidson tallied 5 points and 11 rebounds.

Adrian was lead by Kramer with 25 points. Rusow collected 17 rebounds and 4 blocks to go along with his 6 points.

Congratulations to both teams making it this far. The Bears will face Summit Christian on Tuesday.
