The Butler Bears begin district play in Adrian against the Holden Eagles. The Bears come in on an 8 game win streak. The Bears were looking to continue that streak and move on to the district semi-finals.
The Eagles controlled the tip and instantly turned it over into the hands of the Bears, Chandler sunk the first basket of the game on a drive to the rack. Jenkins answered, tying it up 2-2. Chandler grabbed another basket to spark a 10-0 bears run which would force an Eagles time-out. Out of the time out, the Bears would finish out the quarter on a 7-0 Butler run, capped off by Payne drilling home a deep ball at the buzzer. The Bears carried a 19-2 lead into the second quarter.
The second half started much like the first, with Chandler recoding a steal and running the break to grab bucket at the other end. In the opening 5 minutes of the 2nd, Butler would outscore the Eagles 9-0. With under 3 minutes remaining in the half, Kolbi Hill would finally record the second FG of the night for the Eagles. The Eagles would start shooting slightly better, but would still find themselves trailing 37-10 at the end of the first half.
The Bears, at the half, out rebounded the Eagles 30-3. Jake Chandler, for the Bears, recorded a double in just the first half with 10 points, 11 rebounds.
The Eagles began the first half drawing first blood before Payne would find an open Dylan Davidson for a post score. The Bears would close out the quarter on a 13-6 run to carry a 57-29 lead into the final period.
The clock would run during the 4th as Butler would quickly push the deficit in excess of 30 points. The Bears would cruise to a 67-32 victory.
Trumbore led the Bears with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists. Jake Chandler recorded a double-double for the Bears with 16 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 assists. Dylan Davidson tallied 13 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double as well.
Jenkins led the Eagles with 13 points.
The Bears will move on to face the El Dorado Bulldogs on Thursday night. The Bears defeated the Bulldogs once this season already by a buzzer beater as time expired, be sure and come cheer the Bears on in the semi-finals on Thursday!
