Sophomore sensations get it done on the mat in district wrestling for the bears

If you haven't traveled out to check out the Butler Wrestling Team then your missing out! Coach Dale Long and staff have done a fantastic job coaching and mentoring this group of kids.

This weekend Butler held the district tournament with 16 teams involved. Friday night Butler faced some major adversity as they lost its leader and senior captain Isaac Rodriguez to season ending knee injury in his first match! (Praying for you Isaac). However the bears didn't blink and were able to get three sensational sophomores into the championship matches and win 3 district championships.

The following three district wrestling champs for Butler:

Preston Mallatt (28-10)
Damien Alkire (29-7)
Kellen Long (43-2)

We would like to wish these sensational sophomores best of luck at the Missouri High School State Wrestling Championship next week in Columbia, Missouri. Way to represent your school, All of you should be proud!
Preston Mallatt (28-10) was the first one up at 132lbs and really set the tone for the bears. Preston was able to get a 8-3 decision win over Dalton Doss (23-5) who is a Junior from Tipton High School.

Damien Alkire (29-7) at 138 lbs. The D train was able to get a exciting 2-1 decision over Gage Judd (35-9) a junior from Versailles High School to send the bears den into a roar.

Last on the mat was the cowboy himself Kellen Long (43-2) who defeated Justice Vickers (30-9) a senior from Adrian High School by a 12-1 majority decision.
