Patricia Ann (Terbell) Sparks, 75, of Belton, Missouri passed away on March 18, 2024, at St Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri after her brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 am on April 6, 2024, at Dogwood Gardens, 21712 N Main St, Peculiar, Missouri. The burial will be held at a later date at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas.
Pat was born in Maryville, Missouri on January 17, 1949, to Robert Douglas and Myrtle Irene (Schneider) Terbell. She spent her childhood on farms in Taylor County, Iowa and graduated from Bedford Community High School in 1967. On her twentieth birthday in 1969 Pat enlisted in the United States Air Force. She served in a primary specialty of Bioenvironmental Engineering for 30 years. From 1979 until her retirement, Pat was accompanied by her daughter, Jessica, on the many adventures her enlistment took her. In January of 1999, Pat retired as a Chief Master Sergeant from Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California.
Upon her retirement, Pat returned home to Bedford to be closer to her parents. During the nearly two decades she lived in Bedford, she cultivated friendships, volunteered at the Taylor County Historical Museum, was an active member of American Legion Post 164, and cared for both of her parents. In early 2007, she took on the role of Grammie with absolute zeal. Pat would go on to travel the road between Bedford and Kansas City for regular visits with her grandchildren, never wanting to miss a celebration, a recital, or even the smallest occasion. Starting in 2011, Pat took each of her grandchildren on the road every summer for a trip across different areas of the United States with a focus on history, empowerment, fun and memory making. Her family quickly coined these annual excursions “Grammie Adventures”.
In the fall of 2019, Pat moved to Pickering Place in Belton, Missouri to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. The move to this special community would result in friendships and belonging that Pat could not have anticipated. She was an active member of Pickering Place involved in ladies' coffee, the beatification committee, community-potluck, game nights, and general community camaraderie. She had an absolute love for her neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Left to love and remember her are daughter Jessica (Sparks) Goffinet and husband Andrew; grandchildren Brady and Sophia Goffinet; brother Phil Terbell and wife Becky; brother Ed Terbell and wife Barbara; nieces; and many beloved friends.
