The officer did not observe there to be any adult present with the child so, the officer stayed with the child for approximately 5 minutes until the child’s mother, later identified as Alexis Johnson came out of the nearby residence.
The Officer believed that he could smell the odor of intoxicants omitting from Alexis and he then asked her to submit to a preliminary breath test to which she agreed. The results of the breath test indicated that Alexis was intoxicated. Alexis stated that she had just returned home from Walmart with the children.
Due to the children being in the care of Alexis and being left unattended where they were placed in danger of walking into traffic as well as Alexis being in an intoxicated state while in sole care of the children, Alexis was placed in custody and transported to the Bates County jail. Alexis was issued a citation for Driving While Intoxicated and on 4/20/2024, a warrant was issued with the following charges:
Two counts of Endangering The Welfare Of A Child Creating Substantial Risk- 1st Degree - Class D Felony. Alexis Johnson was assigned a bond amount of $20,000 Cash Only
