On Tuesday, May 14th Butler Police received another report of that stolen SUV in the 500 Block of Dakota Street.
During the investigation into that report, the officer allegedly observed surveillance footage at a Nevada gas station that showed 20 year old Kac Cooper of Butler, Missouri exit with a truck that matched the description.
The officer was dispatched that day to another stolen vehicle. The victim stated that she had a firearm in the vehicle as well as all of her credit cards and wallet.The officer asked the woman to check her credit card transactions, and the cards had allegedly been used at gas stations in Nevada and Appleton City.
After contacting the Nevada Police Department and the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office to check the video surveillance, the officer received a photo of the same suspect using the victim's credit cards at multiple gas stations and seen in the same stolen vehicle.
On May 15th, Nevada Police intercepted the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop on it. The driver allegedly failed to yield and started a pursuit with law enforcement and drove toward the Horton Street exit and crashed the vehicle into a field . Later in the day, Cooper was apprehended in the area.
Mr. Cooper was being held in the Vernon County Jail on a $30,000 cash only bond for the felony charges of two counts of stealing a motor vehicle, a count of stealing a firearm, as well as possession of methamphetamine, resisting arrest, tampering with a motor vehicle, and misdemeanor use of a credit/debit service.
