Belton man sentenced to 5 years MDC

In the fall of 2023, Belton Police Officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on N Mullen Rd near Mo 58 hwy. The first responding officer took notice that one of the drivers was unable to produce a driver’s license and inquired further.

A computer check revealed that this driver had a revoked Missouri driver’s license. The officer also noticed signs of impairment from this driver. The officer arrested the driver for driving while revoked and transported him to the Belton Jail where he investigated the possible intoxication further.

This driver refused standardized field sobriety tests and refused to provide a breath sample to determine his level of intoxication as required by law. The Belton Officer then obtained a search warrant to obtain blood samples from the driver. Lab results later showed that the driver’s blood alcohol concentration was more than twice the legal limit.

A check of the driver’s criminal history showed 7 previous DWI convictions and 4 previous driving while revoked / suspended convictions. The Cass County Prosecutor’s Office then charged Christopher Peace with felony DWI and felony driving while revoked obtaining a bond of $250,000.

On 7-23-2024, Mr. Peace was convicted of these offenses and received a sentence of 5 years incarceration. We commend our officer for a job well done to keep an extremely dangerous driver off our streets.
