Structure fire in Rich Hill

On July 5th at 12:41:53 a.m. the Rich Hill Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire in the 500 block of Olive street. At 12:43:00 a.m. the first fire truck arrived on scene and reported heavy fire and smoke in the living room and front porch.

By 12:59:06 a.m. firefighters had knocked the fire down on the porch and were able to make entry and put the fire out on the first floor of the home.

Fire personnel then attempted to work there way to the second floor to fight the fire. Firefighters were not able to get to the fire on the second floor. And had to exit the home and attack the fire from the outside of the home. Firefighters worked on extinguishing the fire until 4:15:57 a.m.

Thank you to Compton Junction Fire Department for coming up to mutual aid our department.

Also thank you Bates County EMS for providing stand-by. 8 firefighters and 4 trucks responded from Rich Hill and 4 firefighters and 2 trucks responded from Compton Junction. During this incident we did have 1 firefighter suffer from heat exhaustion.
