Bears get road win tonight against North Platte

The Butler Bears traveled to North Platte to take on the Panthers for their season opener. The Bears talent was on full display for the opening half, as Jake Chandler (Junior) took the opening kick-off to the house to quickly get the Bears on the board.

The Bears would continue to dominate the first half, leading 28-6 at the half. The Panthers came out of the locker room with a new passion and began to drive the ball successfully to make for a competitive second half.

After a hard fought second half, the Bears pulled out a 30-20 victory.

The Bears were lead by Chandler who had 2 INTs, a Kickoff return for a TD, and 63 yards and a TD on 2 receptions. All of this was in the first half for Chandler as he left the game in the second quarter with an injury.

Kellen Long passed for 131 and a score for the Bears while also carrying the ball for 78 yards and a TD. Xavier Wisdom (senior) led the Bears rushing attack with 80 yards on the ground. Lucas Davison gave the Bears a defensive score with a 95 yard pick 6 at the end of the 1st half.

Next week the Bears will be at home against the Sherwood Marksmen.
