Obituary - Dr. James Harms

James Fredric Harms, also known as Jim Harms and to the community as Dr. Harms, age of 86, of Nevada, MO, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

Jim was born in St. Louis, Missouri on September 5, 1937. He graduated from Salisbury High School in 1955 and went on to complete his Bachelor of Medicine undergraduate at the University of Missouri. Upon completing his undergraduate he went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine. Following his completion of medical school, he was drafted to the United States Army as a physician at Fort Benning in Georgia. Following his discharge from the military, he then went on to complete his residency at St. Louis County Hospital.

Dr. James Fredric Harms worked as a General Surgeon for 39 years in Nevada, MO and surrounding communities until his retirement in 2008. He enjoyed golfing, boating on the lake, water skiing, snow skiing, and spending time with his family. He was also actively involved in the choir at the First Baptist Church of Nevada for many years.

Dr. James Fredric Harms is survived by his son James David Harms and his fiancé Celia Kreiensieck and his daughter Danielle Marie Long and husband Drew Long. His grandson Logan Blake Harms and his wife Brittany Harms and his granddaughter Madison Leigh Harper, and his 4 great grandchildren; Carsyn (10 years), Cohen (9 years), Rhett (3 years), and Rylan (12 years). Additional family members; stepdaughter, Leslie Woods-Hernandez and her children Lily and Adrian, step-grandson Matt DeBoutez and wife Abby; a brother, John Harms and sister, Janet Monell.

Dr. James Fredric Harms is preceded in death by his parents Florian Louis Harms and Marie Amelia Hederich, his first wife Linda Kay Harms and his late wives Carolyn Harms & Mary Harms, and his daughter Lori Harms.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
