Obituary - Joan Patricia Cox

Joan Patricia Cox, age 94, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2024. She was born on February 11,1930, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Harvey and Edna Whirley Coberly. Harvey passed away when Joan was a young child. She was then raised by her mother and step father, Aaron Blunt. 

She graduated from Pleasanton High School in the Class of 1947. After graduation, she married Clifford Waldon Cox on July 3, 1947. He preceded her in death on June 25, 2007. Joan worked as a candy striper when she was a teenager, broadcast the Pleasanton local news on the Fort Scott radio station, worked at the Pleasanton Observer, Braemoor Garment Factory, Union Gas, and was a secretary for the First Christian Church. During the girls’ school years, she was active in PTA. She also loved to babysit her grandchildren and support all of their activities. 

She was also involved in the local Lion’s Club. She was a member of the Pleasanton United Methodist Church. Her family and friends loved her cooking and baking, especially her homemade pies and pineapple ice cream. 

She enjoyed her daily drives around Pleasanton. Joan loved watching birds, squirrels, and spending time with her dogs and cats. She was also preceded in death by three sons-in-law Dick Carpenter, Dean Schoenhals, Chip Coffman, and a great granddaughter, Karodyn Hoffman. Joan is survived by three daughters, Sandi Carpenter, Shelli Schoenhals, and Sherri (Mike) Coffman-Neal. Ten grandchildren Chad (Tonya) Carpenter, Chase (Tara) Carpenter, Chane Carpenter, Jaisha (Rafael) Murillo, Trae Schoenhals, Rance (Kaleigh) Schoenhals, Shaila Hoffman, Gannon (Macie) Coffman, Mason (Heather) Coffman, and Preston (Karesa) Coffman. Twenty great grandchildren Kadence, Kanyon, Jyllian, and Ryker Carpenter, Jordan Orr, London Orr-Thompson, Gabe, Amaris, Lynndee, and Maxx Murillo, Kason and Everlee Schoenhals, Koberlee Hoffman, Aleigha, Breah, and Chayten Lyons, Cohen, Macklin, Blakely, and Karmen Coffman and one great great grandchild Halle Baker.

Funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, August 17, 2024 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial will be in the Pleasanton Cemetery. 
 
Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to service time at the Pleasanton Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to Pleasanton United Methodist Church or Pleasanton Cemetery Association.
