Obituary - Sylvia Louise McCullough

Sylvia Louise McCullough, 75, of Harrisonville, MO (formerly of Lee's Summit, MO), passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, KS, with her family around her. 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO, with the visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow services at Floral Hills East Cemetery in Lee's Summit, MO. Sylvia was born on October 9, 1948, at her grandma's house in Miller, MO, to Jessie and Marjorie (Laws) Tinker. She spent her early years there before her family moved to Kansas City, KS. It was in Kansas City, she met and married her husband, James Lowell McCullough, on March 13, 1965. Together, they moved to Lee's Summit, MO, where they raised their five children. Sylvia made a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Sylvia dedicated 32 years of her life as a Certified Nurse Aid at John Knox Village, where she was recognized for her exceptional care with the prestigious CNA of the Year award. Her compassion and dedication to her patients were unmatched, and she touched countless lives throughout her career.

A woman of faith, Sylvia found solace in hymns and in the love and teachings of Jesus. She had a creative spirit and enjoyed crafting, as well as, supporting her favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Known for her warm and welcoming nature, Sylvia was a people person who never met a stranger. Her infectious laugh and smile brightened the lives of all who knew her, and her love for babies and the elderly shone through in her work and personal life. Above all, Sylvia cherished her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, James McCullough; her parents; her son, Daymond McCullough; and her 4 siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda (Roger) Parish; her sons: Timothy McCullough, Rodney McCullough, and Ronald McCullough; her 27 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and extended family and friends.
