Update: Two from Nevada seriously injured after accident involving police deputy

A Bates County Sheriff helped two Nevada residents who hit his vehicle in a two-vehicle Bates County accident.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, October 23rd on I-49 in Bates County as a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country, driven by 26-year-old Jody Dines of Nevada, struck the rear of a stationary 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 31-year-old Bates County Deputy Larry Marshall of Butler, with its emergency lights on.

A social media post from the Bates County Sheriff's Office details leading up to the accident Deputy Marshall was assisting the Rich Hill Fire Department with traffic while they were fighting a fire in the median. After the impact Deputy Marshall was assisted out of his vehicle and worked with the Rich Hill Fire personell to get the occupants out of the Chevrolet Town and Country before being transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Following the incident Dines was transported by Vernon County EMS to Belton Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. A passenger of the Town and Country, 25-year-old Jason Jackson of Nevada was transported by Life flight Eagle Air Ambulance to Research Medical Center in Kansas City with serious injuries.
