Adrian Blackhawks win Class 1 District 3 football championship

The Adrian Blackhawks #3 hit the road tonight to take on the defending Class 1 state champions the #2 Marionville Comets in the district championship football game.

The first quarter was a defensive battle seeing Marionville turn the ball over 3 times and Adrian turning the ball over once. The game was tied 0-0 after the first quarter.

Adrian would take the lead on the first play of the 2nd quarter on a 21 yard yard touchdown pass from Senior Colton Miller to Senior Mason Rusow. Miller would get the two point conversion and Adrian would lead 8-0.

The Blackhawks would score again with 4:58 left in the 2nd quarter on a short 4 yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Colton Miller. Adrian would lead 14-0. Marionville would score right before halftime and make the game 14-8 with Adrian leading at halftime.

The third quarter would be a defensive battle as neither team would score and it would remain 14-8. Adrian would add to the lead with Senior Colton Miller kicking a 27 yard field goal with 2:39 left in the game. Marionville would score late and make it a one point game, however Adrian would recover a onside kick and go onto win 17-16 and snap a 25 game winning streak and back to back championship hope for the comets.

Way to go Blackhawks! Adrian will move onto the next round of the state playoffs next Saturday at 1pm at home as they take on St. Vincent in the semi-final game.
