Arrest made after pursuit in Bates County

On 12-08-2024 Deputies with the Bates County Sheriff's Office responded to Adrian, Mo to assist the Adrian PD Officer with a report of a male subject threatening employees of a business and brandishing a firearm to them.

A short time later, the male subject was located in his truck and Officers and Deputies began giving multiple verbal commands for the male to exit the truck. The male subject refused to comply and began yelling obscenities to law enforcement. Due to the subject reportedly brandishing a firearm, the deputies continued to give verbal commands while using a ballistic shield to approach the truck and place a tire deflation device under the rear tire. The male subject saw the Deputies approach and put his vehicle in drive and then fled from the scene. A pursuit was initiated and the Missouri State Highway Patrol was able to set up additional tire deflation devices along the route of the pursuit. The subject continued to flee from Law Enforcement after his rear tires were deflated. The male subject stopped his vehicle at one point, and exited. Deputies began to again, give verbal commands to the male subject, but the subject re-entered the truck and fled a second time. A Corporal with the Sheriff's Office, who's patrol vehicle is equipped with the Grappler device took lead in the pursuit and began to initiate a Grapple on the fleeing truck. As the Deputy initiated the Grapple, the subject pulled over and stopped.

Deputies approached the subject's vehicle and used a window break device to break the driver's window out and unlock the truck door. Deputies then attempted to take the driver into custody and he began to resist and fight deputies. The subject had a set of metal handcuffs in his vehicle, which he used as a weapon and began striking Deputies and Officers with the handcuffs, his fists and his feet. A Sergeant on scene deployed his taser and the subject was extracted from the vehicle as he continued to fight and pull the taser prongs out. The subject was taken into custody and transported to the hospital to be medically cleared before being taken to the Bates County Jail.

One Deputy involved, was also treated at the hospital due to being struck in the eye by the male subject with the handcuffs in his fist. The Deputy suffered multiple fractures to his eye and a hole in his retina. The Deputy is expected to recover but will need further medical treatment for his injuries.

On 12-09-2024 the Judge issued a warrant for Micah A. Breshears for Assault 2nd Degree- Special Victim, Aggravated fleeing, and Unlawful use of a weapon- exhibiting. Bond was set at $50,000 Cash or Surety. This case is being investigated by the Adrian Police Department.
