Obituary - David Willard Ammerman


David Willard Ammerman, Archie, MO, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Crown Care Healthcare Center, Harrisonville, MO, at the age of 94 years, 10 months, and 1 day. 

David was born on March 8, 1930, in Bolivar, MO, the son of Claud (Bob) and Margaret (Maggie) Ammerman. David attended Bolivar Schools and graduated in 1948. In 1951 he joined the United States Air Force and served his country for 4 years. 

He married Betty Joe Brown, of Bolivar, MO on June 8, 1952. They lived in Valdosta, GA, Springfield, MO, Kansas City, MO, and Harrisonville, MO, before buying what would be known as The Farm in 1971, an 80-acre farm west of Archie. His farm and cows brought him much joy. It was a place of many holiday gatherings and happy memories. 

David worked as a Butcher and was a member of the Meat Cutters Union, Local 576. He worked most of his career at Milgram Grocery Stores in Kansas City, MO, retiring from Welborn’s Thriftway in Drexel, MO as their Butcher. 

David and Betty Joe were married for 52 years, until her death in 2009. To this union was born 9 children. David and Betty Joe were both members of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville, MO. 

David is preceded in death by both of his parents, an older brother Claud Ammerman, his loving wife, Betty Joe, and a daughter, Beverly Ammerman in 1982. 

He is survived by eight children Dennis Ammerman of Rich Hill, MO; Charlotte and Delwyn Christiansen of Archie, MO; Pam and Thad Jones of Archie, MO; Don and Julie Ammerman of Archie, MO; John and Jackie Ammerman of Archie, MO; Monica and Bill Raines of Kansas City, MO; Paul and Jennifer Ammerman of Peculiar, MO; and Margo and Dale Guss of Archie, MO. 

Twenty-Five Grandchildren: Robbie, Sheila, Chris, Joe D., Shanna, Jason, James, Nick, Ginna, Eric, Brad, Cynthia, Daniel, Anthony, D’Neshia, Sondra, Joe A., Thad, Travis, Adam, Sarah, Samantha, Alina, Julie Dawn, and Isaiah. 

Thirty-Seven Great Grandchildren: Johnny, Alyce, Jackson, Charlee, Brian, Katie, Jordan, Emily, Audrey, Melina, Lucas, Raegan, Maddie, Allie, Ashley, Samantha, Zach, Megan, Joey, Lily, Chase, Beau, Alan, Connor, Oliver, Clara, Cody, Lake, Thomas, Bennett, Waylon, Walker, Everett, Lincoln, Leaton, Wynnie, and Olivia. 

A private family service will be held under the direction of Dickey Funeral Home of Harrisonville.
