Butler Lady Bears Hot Start to Season

By Cody Morris, Tailgate TV

The Butler Lady Bears Softball team kicked off their season Monday night. The Ladies were originally scheduled to play Miami, however that game fell through and the Bears were able to get the Archie Whirlwinds on the schedule to initiate their 2025 season!

Kylee Dubray started inside the circle to begin for the Bears. Kylee would go for 4 innings where she gave up 3 hits and 3 runs (1 unearned). In just 4 innings Dubray was able to strike out 8 Lady Whirlwinds.

Kyleigh Wilson of Archie did not have quite the same luck, as the Bears were able to rack up 10 hits and 10 runs over just the first 3 innings, with Wilson.

Archie was able to begin the scoring with Lizzy Thompson recording a single RBI in the top of the first. However, the Bears would answer back loudly in their half of the first where they would score 5 runs, 3 of which came from a 3RBI double off the bat of Gabby Carmichael.

The Bears started the season off with a big 17-7 win of the Lady Whirlwinds.

The Bears were able to rack up 16 hits in the contest. Cook led the Bears with a perfect 4/4 form the dish. Gabby Carmichael drove in 5 runs on her 3 hits, while Dubray and Ella Ragan also collected multiple hits. Cook and Carmichael were both one hit away from the cycle during this game.

Syd Davis was awarded the Web Gym Warrior Award for her defensive efforts.

For Archie, Newport went 3 of 3 from the plate, while Gallardo, Mattingly, Thompson, Wilson, Carter and Newport each drove in a run for the Lady Whirlwinds.

Coach Mandy Adams says “Keep rising. The sky is the limit”, when talking about this great group of Lady Bears.

Come support these ladies next week as they have FOUR home games next week!
