Butler Lady Bears Softball was hosting Midway tonight for Senior Night. The Senior Night festivities were set to take place after the ball game, and the Lady Bears did not waste anytime as they run ruled the Lady Vikings in just 3 innings of play. The Vikings came into the contest with 7-11 record.
The first couple of innings started off slowly, with both teams scoreless in the first, and just one run scored in the 2nd. The Bears got on the board in the bottom of the 2nd when Brooke Miller plated a run.
In the third, the Bears really came to life and made a statement. Butler started off the inning with some note-worthy plate discipline with Kayden Cook working a walk, Trudell reaching on an error, and Dubrary working a walk to place 2 runners in scoring position (Cook scored on the error off of Trudell’s bat) for the power threat Taylor Hudson. Hudson tripled on a hard hit ball to right and scored both, Trudell and Dubray. The Bears rally continued, and after a few more walks and some errors at the hands of the Vikings, the Bears jumped up to an 8-0 lead in the bottom of the third, with no outs, and no signs of letting up.
Kayden Cook hit an RBI single that scored Carmichael and moved Ragan and Eldred both into scoring spots. Trudell grounded out to the pitcher, but was able to bat in a run from Ragan and move Eldred and Cook up. Finally, Eldred walked the game off with a single that scored Davis and Miller and put the Bears up 15-0 which would end the contest mercifully with a run-rule win for the Butler Bears.
It was a tale of two pitchers for the night, while Midway went through 3 different arms in as many innings and gave up 15 runs, 8 base on balls and just 1 strikeout. On the other side, Kylee Dubray went all 3 innings for the Bears and sat down 9 batters in a row, throwing a perfect no hitter.
The Bears plate discipling was on full display with 8 walks for the Butler squad. However, they were able to hit the ball well when there was a strike left across the plate. Hudson went 2 of 3 on the night with a double and triple and 2 RBIs. Avery Eldred also had a big night at the plate, going 2 of 3 herself and racking up 3 RBIs. Cook, Trudell, Dubray, Miller, Davis and Ragan all recorded RBIs in the matchup as well.
This was Senior Night for the Lady Bears, and after the blow-out victory they recognized Avery Eldred, Brooke Miller and Ella Ragan.
The Lady Bears move to 12-8 on the season and will host Hume on Thursday! Come out Thursday night to cheer on the Lady Bears against the Hume Hornets!
