We are excited to announce our first spring athlete of the week, Miles Wheeler, from Drexel High School. Miles is a junior and he was nominated by his Head Coach Kenny Shipps. Coach Shipps stated “Miles is an excellent student-athlete. Besides his success on the track, he is also a successful leader. When asked to help with our younger athletes, he is very willing to help and is a great mentor to the younger tracksters. He competes in pole vault, 110M hurdles, 300M hurdles and long jump. And, he medaled in all events at both track meets this past week.” Miles also participates in football and basketball at Drexel. When we asked Miles what he thought it takes to become an elite athlete he stated “it takes commitment and discipline both on and off the field or court.” When we asked him what bit of information he would pass on to the younger classmates he stated “always be ready and listening, so you are prepared for when it’s your turn to be put it.” We asked him his favorite sports memory and he stated “getting to go to state track in the pole vault last year.” He also has a goal of making it back there this year. He is undecided what his future plans will be post highschool. It was such a pleasure speaking with Miles. Thank you to Coach Shipps and the Drexel school district for having me today.
