Herrman’s Historical Happenings week of April 9
1865 The War Between the States, officially the "Civil War" ends, with the surrender of the Southern leaders.
1866 Bates Co officials move county records from Pleasant Gap to Butler.
1881 The Bates Co Record newspaper reports 25 new houses are being built in Butler.
1929 All the telephone switchboard gear is removed and updated, as the telephone office has been moved to North Delaware street (just north of the Inn Hotel).
1941 The Ballard Community 4-H club is reorganized as the Busy Bees 4-H club.
1946 It is discovered that someone broke into the tool shed at Greenlawn Cemetery as stole all the tools. The same bandits likely broke into the Peoples Elevator in Rich Hill, the only thing missing was Hubert Kienberger's old double barreled shotgun.
1956 A large crowed attends the dedication of the new city hall, Butler (Lyon street).
