Herrman’s Historical Happenings week of June 11 

1879 A drove of about 1,700 sheep are herded through Butler on their way West.

1881 So far 105 harvesters or reapers have been sold by Butler farm dealers.

1917 Miss Agnes Gasaway, employee of the Commercial Bank of Hume, becomes the first lady Notary Public in Bates Co.

1934 5 armed bandits take two one armed bandits (slot machines) from the night attendant at Prewitt's Cafe on US 71, Butler.

1953 The Rich Hill Mining Review prints "The difference between radio and television is that on radio you wonder what people are laughing at, while on television you wonder why."

1966 The first Miss Bates Co pageant is held at the Butler High School, Miss Sharon Hilgedick is crowned.

1981 A twelve inch rainstorm floods Butler, at one time covering all roads and highways leading to Butler.

1982 A U.S. Air Force helicopter crashes 7 miles West of Passaic, crew of six perish.
