Herrman’s Historical Happenings week of August 20

1821 Statehood becomes official for Missouri Territory.

1874 While the Sackett family is at their daughter's wedding, someone steals 3 decorated cakes for the wedding dinner from their home in Butler.

1885 J.B. Durand of Prairie Township, estimates there are 20,000 barrels of apples in Bates Co orchards, this year.

1883 The 5 story flour mill in Rich Hill, is turning out 200 barrels of flour every 24  hours.

1934 The Butler Bit & Bridle Club is organized and takes a long term lease on a tract of land at the West end of Pine Street (West of West street).

1938 The Mulberry Merry Maidens extension club hold an ice cream supper and mock radio program in Amoret, for a very large crowd.

1944 For the third straight week, the Amsterdam area is plummeted with damaging thunderstorms. This week corn is flattened in the Passaic community, also.

1980 The Rockville United Methodist church is struck by lightning and burns down.

1993 The F. M. Thorpe (Thorco) plant in Butler is constructing a 60,000 square foot addition to their plant.
