Obituary - Doug Knox

Gary Douglas Knox, 62, or just Doug, as he was known to friends and family, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, after a courageous battle against cancer. As per his request, cremation with no services scheduled at this time; but, the family asks that you honor him in the method of your choice. Donations may be made to the Harrisonville Animal Shelter or American Cancer Society.

Born in Harrisonville, the only son of Robert and Connie Knox, Doug joined 5 older sisters, and was always his mother's favorite. Doug graduated from Harrisonville High School in 1981, married Amy (Brown) in 1985, and made Harrisonville their home. Together, Doug and Amy shared a beautiful life and welcomed 2 children, Sara Allyce and Kyle Douglas.

Early in life, Doug spent his summers at the lake skiing, camping, and boating. He spent many hours pulling an inner tube or skier behind his boat, and even teaching his nieces and nephews how to ski. He found great joy in just taking a boat ride. Later he introduced his son, Kyle, and his friends to "lake life".

Doug went on to have a very successful career working for Hendrick Automotive for more than 25 years. Known to his friends as "Wreckbuilder" he brought skill and passion to every car he fixed. Doug had a love for football, especially the Chiefs, and owned every edition of Madden Football for Playstation ever made. He loved chocolate milk in his coffee and in his younger days was known to eat an entire box of cereal out of a mixing bowl. Doug never met a dog he didn't like, and looked forward to his nightly walks with his pup, Milo. His sense of humor was as unique as he was, and you couldn't help but laugh when you were with him.

Doug is preceded in death by both parents, Robert and Connie, and two sisters, Diane Noble and (Karen) Denise Miller. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Amy; his daughter, Sara (Nick), of Sedalia, MO; and his son, Kyle (Kaitlyn), of Harrisonville, MO. Also surviving are his sisters: Linda (Chris) Patrick, Pittsboro, NC; Janet Gaddy, Harrisonville, MO; and Debbie (John) Winders, Collins, MO; along with a number of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
