Herrman’s Historical Happenings week of November 19

1880 The Warsaw Times prints "Five months ago Rich Hill had no existence, but today it boasts 250 buildings, many the models of taste and beauty."

1881 The Bates CO Record newspaper reports that not only is Butler going to have electric lights, but soon a line of street cars running from the depot to the square.

1887 Late at night, 22 year old Simeon Wadell sees flames coming from the roof of the John Redford home and desperately tries to get the owners attention to no avail. He then crashes though the door only to be shot dead due to the owner not knowing the house was on fire, and thinking it was an intruder.

1896 A neighboring newspaper article reports that W.J. Baxter if making arrangements for a paper in Foster, which is known as a "newspaper graveyard. He prints it, but it lasts a very short time.

1912 Tom Grimsley & C.A. Wall bring a wagon load of pecans to Butler and receive $265. They estimate they had a ton of nuts.

1978 The new Masonic building is dedicated, Adrian.

1979 Mary Keas opens Mary's Restaurant, US 71 & Pine st.,formerly Dukes Tastee Freez, Butler (former Casey's location).

1994 In triple overtime, the Miller Cardinals defeat the Adrian Blackhawks 18 to 15 in semi-final play on the Adrian muddy gridiron.
