Jeannette Elaine “Jeanne” Doty-Burton, age 78, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026 at CenterpointMedical Center in Independence, MO. She was born October 3, 1947 in Butler, MO. Jeanne was a 1965 graduate of Rich Hill High School and soon after married James “Jim” Doty on June 5, 1965. They had 2 sons: James Douglas Doty and Jeffery Scott Doty.
Jeanne worked at the Butler Glass Plant, Nevada Habilitation Center, and opened her own beauty salon
in Rich Hill for a time. In her 40’s, she decided to go to college and pursue a nursing degree. She
attended Longview Community College and Fort Scott Community College’s nursing program. After
becoming a Registered Nurse, she worked at local nursing homes supporting the elderly and disabled of
her community, often as Charge Nurse. She loved helping others.
In 2001, her husband Jim passed away. She remarried Duane Burton on August 31, 2014 and they
enjoyed 11 years of companionship together.
Jeanne was not afraid to try new things and create art in many forms. She loved music and had a
beautiful singing voice. She developed a skill for oil painting and gifted many of her paintings to those
she loved. She was an avid fisherman and card player. She loved to crochet. And in recent years, found
a passion for professional football (or at least the Chiefs).
Jeanne’s greatest gift was her love for people and being able to connect with anyone. She could be
described as a social butterfly that enjoyed laughter and the sharing of her spirit with anyone around.
She was courageous in her desire to spread the love of the Lord to all in her presence. She never shied
away from any topic concerning her faith and wanted to exemplify her love of Jesus Christ by how she
lived and how she loved her family and friends. She was baptized unto the Lord and attended the Rich
Hill Community of Christ Church and the Rich Hill Christian Church.
Jeanne is survived by her husband Duane Burton, Rich Hill MO, son Jeffery (Susan) Doty, Ballard MO,
