Some interesting statistics from the MU Extension

In 2023, most Missouri businesses with employees (76%) and nonemployer firms (58%) were operated by men. However, women continue to play a powerful and growing role in the state’s economy. Women-owned businesses made up over half (51%) of all service-sector firms in Missouri.

One of Missouri’s fastest growing job sectors, health care, is led overwhelmingly by women. Two out of three health care firms (67%) are women-owned, showing the essential role women entrepreneurs play in this expanding field.
Women-owned sole proprietorships are more common in metro areas, where they represent 44% of firms, compared with 37% in nonmetro counties.
