Herrman’s Historical Happenings week of April 29

1896 In a well drilled near Merwin, oil is encountered at 200 feet and is producing one barrel a day.
1920 Harry Epperson, of Epperson Motor Company, returns to Butler with the latest Cleveland tractor and plans to give demonstrations over the county showing this wonderful machine and its many practical uses.
1923 Today is "Automobile Day" at the Butler Methodist Church. Everyone is requested to bring their cars and there will be a basket dinner at 3 pm.
1938 Welton Jewelry Co, also does watch repair. Have Wilbur Welton be on the watch with you.
1960 The population of Bates Co is increasing. Ten years ago it was 17,534 and today it is 19,531.
1978 A good crowd attends Western Communications open house in Butler to see demonstrations of the latest FM 2-way radios.
