Obituary - Dale Phillips

Dale (Roach) W. Phillips, 86, of Montrose, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 23, 2026. A memorial visitation and gathering will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Contributions may be made to the SIDS Foundation.

Dale was born November 2, 1939, in Kansas City, MO, a son of Russell and Eileen (Meyers) Phillips. He lived in Kansas City until moving to Harrisonville in 1973. Dale was united in marriage to Shirley Anne Zeller on March 25, 1977, in Harrisonville, with the ceremony officiated by her father, Pastor David Zeller. They made their home together in Harrisonville until moving to rural Montrose in 1995.

Dale was a Millwright and a Carpenter, belonging to Millwright Local #1529 in Kansas City and Carpenters Local #777 in Harrisonville. In his spare time, Roach was owner/operator of his own heavy equipment construction company. He was always a biker and loved his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle. Dale was a member of the White Plate Flat Track Association. Spent many years flat tracking across the Midwest and West coast, as well as, Florida. Also, a three-time qualifier to race at Daytona Speedway on his road course bike. Dale is listed in the Flat Track Hall of Fame in Sturgis, South Dakota. He enjoyed spending time traveling to places such as Mexico, Central America, and Colorado with his wife, Shirley.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brothers, Donnie Phillips and Ronnie Phillips; and a granddaughter, Jessey Myrtle. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley Phillips; his children: Brian (Stacey) Myrtle, Butler, MO; Kelly Tarwater, Archie, MO; Wendy (Don) Turner, Wynnewood, Oklahoma; and Jay (Kellie) Waters, Butler, MO; four grandchildren: Cody (Aerial) Myrtle, Samantha (Sabastian) Jones, Jayme McElwain (Caden), and Seth Turner (Melayna); seven great-grandchildren: Huntlee, Bennett, Layla ,Grant, Veda, Louis, and Abigail; along with numerous other relatives and many many friends.

Out of all the things Roach accomplished in his life, his greatest joys came from his wife, Shirley, and spending time with his kids. But what he cherished most was being called Grandpa, loving his grandkids and great-grandkids while celebrating all of their accomplishments.
