Ronald Glenn McClelland, age 92, of Appleton City, Missouri, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated service, quiet generosity, and deep devotion to his family and community.
Ron was born on February 18, 1934, in McPherson, Kansas, to Orville Byron McClelland and Edna Lucille (Swick) McClelland. He answered the call to serve his country in October 1957 when he was inducted into the United States Army. He served honorably until his discharge in September 1963.
On April 9, 1971, Ron wed the love of his life, Joan Keeton, in Olathe, Kansas. They shared nearly four decades of marriage. For most of his life, Ron resided in Wichita, Kansas, where he worked as a skilled electrician for a construction company. His career took him on travels across several states before his retirement in 1996. Following his retirement, Ron and Joan moved to Appleton City, Missouri, returning to the community where Joan had grown up. Ron was a fiercely devoted husband; when Joan’s health failed, he traveled twice a day to a nursing home in a neighboring town for many years to spend time with her and care for her until her passing in 2010.
Ron was deeply invested in his community and held memberships in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Appleton City VFW Post 11242.
His faith was a cornerstone of his life. As a highly active member of the First Christian Church in Appleton City, Ron worked tirelessly behind the scenes. He handled countless vital tasks that ensured Sunday morning services always ran smoothly, never seeking recognition for his efforts. He was widely known for his kind, helpful spirit, frequently volunteering his time to complete repair jobs and small building projects for anyone in need. In his downtime, Ron loved gardening, especially growing and sharing his famous tomatoes with neighbors and friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan, and his parents, Orville and Edna McClelland.
He is survived by his three sisters, Joyce Cornwell, Virginia Atkins, and Donna Voss. He also leaves behind his dear friends and caregivers, Dennis and Debbie Ray, alongside many cherished church friends and neighbors who will deeply miss his steady presence and warm heart.
