Little Apple news

Due to the inclement weather conditions during the AC Fair this spring, several events had to be cancelled. The Fair Committee has scheduled an “Appleton City Fair Reboot…Family Fun Day” for August 22 in Forest Park from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. There will be inflatables from K&S Inflatables, baby show, toddler swimsuit contest, bake off, senior royalty crowning, K9 demonstration, pony rides, kids games and live music from the Truman Lake Dulcimers & Sparrowfoot.  All activities will be free.  There will be several food and retail vendors available at cost.


Join AC Elementary School for an Open House 5:00-7:00 p.m. August 20 to check off all the back to school boxes. Drop off school supplies, meet your child's teacher, snap that back to school photo, complete enrollment paperwork and grab a hot dog for dinner.


The A C Boosters invite you to “Meet the Bulldogs” 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, Augusts 26 in the AC Gym.  Teams will have open volleyball, football and cheerleading practice at 5:30 p.m. for the community.  You are asked to support our athletes by bringing sports drinks or water for game days.


The AC Public Library invites patrons to stop by for information about their Adult's Book Club and their book for September, The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood.


The Annual Labor Day Picnic at Immaculate Conception Parish (606 Kansas Ave., Montrose) will be held on Monday, September 7.  The menu includes fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, dressing, green beans, slaw, bread & butter pickles, and homemade pie. All this is only $15 for adults, and $10 for children age 5-10 and preschoolers eat free. The all-you-can-eat dinner is served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the basement of St. Mary’s School, which is handicap accessible. Outdoor tent seating and carry-out are also available. There is a huge country store open from 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. There will be corn hole, kid’s activities and bingo open at 11:00 a.m. A homemade pie auction will begin at 3:30 p.m. followed by the cash and quilt raffles. 


You are invited to a Community Luau Sunday, September 13 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church of Appleton City. Join them for food, fun, games and fellowship. Please bring lawn chairs.

The AC Fall City Wide Garage Sale dates have been set for September 25 & 26. Permit details will be posted at a later date.

Appleton City Carousel is open weekends through Labor Day, Friday-Sunday 4:00-7:00 p.m. It will close if inclement weather is happening. The AC Fall City Wide Garage Sale dates have been set for September 25 & 26. Permit details will be posted at a later date. 


Rural food and farm businesses in St. Clair, Henry, and Bates Counties may be eligible for grants of up to $25,000 through the Harvest to Market grant program. Funding can support projects that expand access to markets and strengthen local food systems. The program is through the Heartland Food Business Coalition and New Growth. There is a Quilt Show at the Appleton City Museum through August.  The Museum is open Fridays 1:30-4:30 and the same hours on second Saturday, August 8.  Appleton City Landmarks Restoration is celebrating 40 years this year. Forty two quilts have been pulled out of storage for showing.  They range in age from 1876-2016. The oldest traveled on a covered wagon from Indiana to Missouri.   There are friendship quilts from surrounding communities, scrap quilts, quilted wall hangings and more. You are invited to visit the Museum and Clark House to see the collection and vote for your favorite quilt. The Museum is located at 503 N. Maple, one block north of the caution light.
