1871 Mr Stone leaves the Bates Co Record newspaper, in Butler, to start a newspaper in Appleton City.
1878 The Bates Co Court grants a license to R.W. Smith to operate a ferry on the Osage river, South of Papinville.
1880 The town of Howard is laid out, but the postal service says there is already a Howard in Missouri. Finally, the USPO accepts Hume and a post office is opened.
1901 The Bates Co Teachers Institute begins two weeks of training in Adrian.
1905 The magnificent house of Major George Falloon, atop a hill on his 800 acre ranch, Southwest of Adrian, has a ballroom on the third floor.
1910 A fierce fire destroys most of the Rich Hill Vitrified Brick & Tile plant.
1946 The extremely hot and dry spell is broken as Bates Co measures nearly 6 inches of rain.
1976 Goldie's Beauty Shop, east side of the Butler square, is the oldest beauty shop in Bates Co, with 40 years of service.
1999 BC National Bank president Bill Gepford announces they have added the Citizens Bank of MO, with locations in Harrisonville and Pleasant Hill to the group. There are two branches in Butler, one in Amoret and one in Lee's Summit.
2000 The 23rd annual Rockville Festival opens, sponsored by the Rockville Lions Club.
