Obituary - Stephen Lewis Conley


Stephen Lewis Conley, age 74, Blue Mound, Kansas passed away Monday, September 7, 2026. He was born on June 7, 1952 in Fort Scott, Kansas, the son of Earl and Anna Mae Stoeckle Conley. As a child, he enjoyed fishing and hunting and would continue these throughout his life. Stephen graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1970. He then attended Fort Scott Community College where he played trumpet in the band. His Bachelor's degree was earned from Pittsburg State University in Business Administration in 1974. After college, he started working for Daniel Construction at the LaCygne power plant. He continued to rise through the ranks to Cost Control Manager with Fluor International. For 10 years, Stephen also enjoyed raising emus. Stephen was united in marriage to Malinda Smith on October 2, 1976. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time with his family especially traveling, playing board games, card games, and praying the rosary. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles Conley. Stephen is survived by his wife, Malinda, three daughters, Stephanie, Katelyn and Pamella Conley, a brother Kenny/Linda Conley, sisters-in-law Linda Conley, Marilyn Duggins, Mryna/Greg Golden, brothers-in-law Richard/Corey Smith and Michael/Kara Smith, and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 am Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Mound City, Kansas. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed at 5 pm Friday, September 11at the Schneider Funeral Home, Pleasanton Chapel. Visitation will follow until 7 pm.
