1861 Hundreds of robbers from Kansas are penetrating into Bates Co, robbing Butler and Johnstown, and everyone in between.
1891 John & Belle Rankin lay out the town of Amsterdam, Mo.
1909 The 5th annual Hume Stock Show draws a crowd of 7,000 for two days.
1919 Mr. Harrison sells his 533 acres near Ballard to Mr Chitty for $40,000.
1926 The Virginia Pear Orchard has hand picked pears $1 a bushel.
1983 The Casey's Store in Adrian is the scene of a daylight robbery.
1987 A Vernon county jury returns a guilty verdict of the first degree against 29 year old Steven Roby, accused of stabbing his grandmother at the family home just east of Adrian.
1991 The First Bank of Butler displays a Bates Co meteorite, plowed up on a farm in the 1880's, as part of the Bates Co sesquicentennial celebration.
