1863 There have been 3 large battles in Bates County so far this year.
1875 The second annual Bates Co Fair opens, at the fairground East of Butler.
1948 The Fritts Garage and Adrian Locker burn.
1949 The Bates County sesquicentennial time capsule is encased by the Underwood-Steinbeck Funeral Home.
1988 Five years old and growing, the Butler news-Xpress newspaper started with just a few subscribers, now sending papers to over 3,700.
1989 The Butler Saddle Club hosts the Missouri High School Rodeo Association rodeo at the fairgrounds. A big event lasting two days.

2000 Sandy Fenton's "Sandy's Herb Shop" celebrates her 19th anniversary located at north Main & Chestnut streets in Butler. Still open today at 507 S. Orange, Butler.
