Miami County Sheriff's Office makes arrest using high tech device

Over the weekend, while on routine patrol, a Deputy received an alert from the Axon in-car camera system’s license plate reader, indicating that the registered owner of a vehicle had an outstanding warrant.

A vehicle check was conducted, and during the course of the encounter, the Deputy developed reasonable suspicion that illegal narcotics were present. K9 Clay was called to the scene and deployed on the vehicle, resulting in a positive indication.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed illegal narcotics, including methamphetamine, crack cocaine, cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, and marijuana. Drug paraphernalia and a large quantity of currency were also located.
The individual was taken into custody, and charges are pending. The investigation remains ongoing.

BCMH pitches in with Rich Hill 4th celebration

Our EMS team was on site to provide standby medical coverage for the Rich Hill 4th of July celebration, July 2-5. From the baby contest to the Saturday night concert, our crew stayed on site to help keep everyone safe, along with the Rich Hill Fire Department and the Bates County Sheriff's Department. Our team enjoyed their short-term change of scenery in the outdoors - in spite of the heat - and connecting with the community.
Over the course of the event, our team responded to two calls for dehydration and three for traumatic injuries, two of which required transport by LifeFlight Eagle. We were also happy to bring out our BCMH misting tent to help beat the heat. Thank you to the City of Rich Hill for providing the water!

Did You Know?
When our EMS team attends nonprofit community events like this, they’re on paid standby, supported by the hospital, not the city or event planners. If an emergency call comes in elsewhere in the county, the team may be called away to respond.
For for-profit events that require dedicated EMS coverage, we offer that service through a separate agreement and work to schedule an additional crew.

1 dead following altercation in Archie

On July 5th around 11:30 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the Archie RV Park located near SW Outer Rd. in regards to a medical emergency — with a man bleeding. At the same time, dispatch also got a call from a second residence in Archie where a subject said he had been in an altercation.

Deputies responded there as well. The subject at that second residence said he had been in an altercation with another man in the parking lot of a local business, where he was assaulted.
Deputies determined these two calls were related to the same incident and both men were taken to local hospitals, one of them in critical condition.
The following day, the man who was in critical condition succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. That person has been identified as 34-year-old Michael Wolfe of Archie.
An investigation ongoing and all subjects involved have been identified at this time.
