School supplies list now available
School starts in a few weeks around the county and parents are reminded that Walmart in Butler has supply lists for local schools available. The lists are sorted by classes with the basic supplies needed.
Don't forget the tax free weekend is August 1st through 3rd.

Obituary - J.D. Kropf
Funeral services for J.D. Kropf will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 30 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Brother Kevin Black officiating. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial, Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Contributions to Virginia United Methodist Church or Butler Bear Backers.
John Douglas J. D. Kropf, age 89 of Butler, Missouri died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. He was born September 24, 1920 to Daniel and Florence Yoder Kropf in Goshen, Indiana.
J. D. is survived by his wife, Doris Kropf of Butler, Missouri; one son, Joe Kropf and wife Jean of LaCygne, Kansas; a daughter, Sherry Hannah and husband Arnold of Butler, Missouri; two brothers, Jack Kropf of Harrisonville, Missouri and Morris Kropf and wife Joyce of Arizona; five grandchildren, John Kropf, Chris Kropf, Kasey Hartnett and husband Brian, Kirk Hannah and wife Sheryl and Matt Hannah and wife Vickie; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Structure fire in Adrian
Adrian and Butler fire departments are responding to the scene of a reported residence fire at the corner of 1st and Virginia streets in Adrian. Heavy smoke was reported to be coming from the garage.
MBRA Barrel Races rescheduled for this Saturday
Adrian Bit and Spur Saddle Club has rescheduled the MBRA barrel race this Saturday July 31st at the Ferguson Arena in Adrian City Park. Start time is 7PM and admission is free to spectators.
Voters urged to study ballot and vote next Tuesday
As temps remain hot, so are the campaigns between local candidates for various positions. For the Associate Circuit Judge spot Democrat Debra Hopkins faces Republican Diana Dee Thomas while three people vie for Presiding Commissioner; Donna Gregory and Donald Cole (both Democrat) and Republican J. Douglas Lawrence. For County Clerk Marlene Wainscott and Matthew Vandenburg, both Democrat are on the ballot.
Uncontested local races include Clerk of the Circuit Court Diana Rich; Recorder of Deeds Lucille Mundey and Prosecuting Attorney Hugh C. Jenkins; all three Democrat.
On the State level, State Representative for the 120th District Democrat Zachariah Maggi is up against Republican Scott Largent. State Representative for the 125th District is uncontested with Barney Fisher, Republican, on the ticket.
Mount Pleasant Township voters will decide if a special road tax levy shall be imposed of $0.2000 on the $100 valuation for four years.
Missouri has made national news headlines as voters will decide if the Government will have the authority to penalize citizens for not purchasing national health care insurance. Read the Proposition C verbiage on the ballot by clicking here.
