Butler city wide clean up next month

The Butler Fall city wide clean up happens on October 11th and 18th, so start making plans now. The week of October 11th will be for residences South of Fort Scott street and the 18th for those North of Fort Scott. More information about types of items accepted will be published soon.

Papinville picnic set for Sept 25th

A lot of folks don't know that a big part of Bates County's history originates in the Papinville area and in a few weeks, you'll have a chance to learn more about it. The Annual Papinville Picnic is slated for September 25th with a full afternoon of activities starting around 1:30 pm. Peggy Buhr of the Bates County Museum will be presenting a talk on Harmony Mission, another historical area located near of Rich Hill. Besides great fellowship, you'll have a chance to tour the restored school house, museum, shelter house and see the band stand.


The annual Papinville Picnic is a primary fund raising event and is done to help preserve Bates County history; plan on bringing your family for a fun filled, educational afternoon.

Propane leak near Foster

Around 1:40 pm the Foster Fire Department was dispatched to a residence on U Highway, North of A Highway to investigate a propane leak near a mobile home.

Pipe bomb suspect under arrest

Butler Police arrested Michael Lindsay of Butler following the execution of a search warrant at 501 North Mechanic; items recovered at the residence included a sawed off shotgun and materials for making pipe bombs. Lindsay, 44, was stopped during a routine traffic stop on August 21st when officers found a pipe bomb, which was later detonated by the Kansas City Police Bomb and Arson unit. So far, Lindsay is charged with unlawful possession of an explosive weapon, a Class C Felony.
