An accident in Henry County claimed the life of 62 year old Mary E. Bashor, wife of Dr. Ronald Bashor of Butler this morning. According the MSHP report, the accident happened on Highway 18 near Clinton as the Bashor car struck a 2008 Freightliner truck driven by Michael K. Vogt, 63, of Urich Mo. head on. Dr. Bashor was taken to Golden Valley Hospital in Clinton with serious injuries. Mary Bashor was taken to Consalus Funeral Home in Clinton. It appears the driver of the truck escaped with minor injuries.
The accident happened around 10:30 this morning; we will provide more information as it becomes available.

Semi truck pileup near Rich Hill
11:29 a.m. - The Missouri Highway Patrol is in route to an accident involving multiple tractor-trailers in the Southbound lanes of 71Highway just North of Rich Hill. Initial reports are that one semi is jackknifed in the median and a MODOT truck was also involved. The Bates County Sheriff's Department is on the scene reporting no injuries at this time.

Upon arrival Deputies were met by the victim who has a rural route Butler address. The victim had received a collection letter on a bad check. The victim stated that he hasn't had an active checking account for 12 years.
THEFT-Adrian On 01/04/2011, Deputies were dispatched to the Bates County Sheriff's Office, 6 West Fort Scott, Butler, MO in reference to a walk-in report of theft of tools from Route 1 Adrian, MO. The reporting party stated that 2 pouches of socket set of tools were taken from his residence on 01/03/2011. The estimated value of the tools was $100.00 total.

THEFT OCCURRED EARLIER-Rich Hill- On 01-07-2011, at approximately 1145 hours, Deputies were dispatched to the Rich Hill area reference a theft that had occurred sometime in the last two years. Upon arrival it was determined that a theft had occurred and a report was taken.
DISTURBANCE-Rich Hill On 01-07-11 the Bates County Sheriff's Office received a call of a disturbance near Rich Hill. Deputies arrived and placed a male in custody for that disturbance. The male was held on a 4 hour Domestic hold.

Winter weather advisory issued
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Western Mo. to include Bates County and surrounding areas. The forecast calls for around an inch or so tonight, with another 4 inches of snow or more possible by Tuesday. Winds are expected to cause drifting, making driving conditions difficult; we'll post updates including school closings and other cancellations as they become available.
