Obituary - Genevieve Halstead

Graveside services for Genevieve Halstead will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2011 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler, Missouri with Dan King officiating. Visitation will be prior to services from 1-2 p.m. at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555). Contributions to United Ostomy Association of America.

Genevieve Marie Halstead, age 93 of Butler, Missouri died Monday, January 10, 2011 at Joplin Health Care in Joplin, Missouri. She was born November 5, 1917 to Edward and Anna Laura South Miller in Blue Springs, Missouri.

Genevieve is survived by her son, Athol Warren and wife Evelyn of Adrian, Missouri; a daughter, Gloria Ambrosius and husband Gerald of Joplin, Missouri; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Dick in 1974; second husband, Victor in 1989; one brother; and two sisters.

Obituary - Eva Peterson

Eva Anita (Endecott) Peterson, 97, Drexel, MO, died Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville, MO. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 13 at the First Baptist Church in Archie, MO. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 12 at the church. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the church Chat & Sew Group or to Grace Hospice.

Eva was born October 8, 1913, in rural Miami County, Kansas, the sixth of ten children born to Thomas William and Daisy Della (Bruner) Endecott. She attended Drexel, Missouri High School, where she excelled as a student and member of the basketball team, the Debate Team, the Girls Reserve Club and Drama Club, graduating in 1931. She later attended the Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, MO for one year.

On April 28, 1934, she married Clarence Eldon Peterson of the Main City area east of Drexel. There, they farmed with his parents, Waldo and Erma, and started a dairy, selling milk to a cheese factory, then with a larger herd, producing grade A milk. They also raised turkeys and chickens, at one time selling eggs to a hatchery in Archie, MO. Two children, Larry Eldon and Laraine Dell completed their family.

In addition to the duties of a farm wife, Eva was a homemaker, a gardener, a Sunday school teacher and a quilter. She was active in church, school and community participating in the Prairie View Benefit Extension Club, the Cass County Hospital Auxiliary Pink Ladies, the Archie First Baptist Chat and Sew Group and Golden Circle Class. She often served as an election clerk or judge.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Eldon on August 16, 1988; a son-in-law, Randy Walters, brothers, Franklin Marion and Melville Harrison, sisters, Lourene Ann at age 9, Bertha Viola (Dakin), Isadora Elizabeth (Sage), Daisy Dell (Shultz-Daily) and Mary Ellen (Aurand).

She leaves behind her son, Larry Peterson and wife, Rosemary of rural Adrian, MO; daughter, Laraine Walters of Lebanon, MO; grandchildren, Lorence “Gene” Peterson and wife, Donna of Drexel, MO, Paul Peterson and wife, Kathy of Camdenton, MO, Kenneth Peterson and wife, Carmen of Drexel, MO, Bradley Walters and wife, Alissa and Jennifer Boyd and husband, Michael of Parkville, MO; great-grandchildren, Melissa Clark and husband, Mike, Melinda Yoakum and husband, Jarod, Myles and Trenton Peterson, Jacob and Gwyneth Walters; step-grandchildren Ashley and Michelle Johnson, Britany, Andrea, and Madison Horton and great-great-grandson, Colt Yoakum; brother, Thomas Alvan Endecott of Drexel, MO; sister, Ruth May Hudson of Tehachapi, CA and a host of other relatives and friends.

Annual Bates County Cattlemen and CattleWomen meeting this Saturday

Butler Police Department report

Jan. 5th - Officers work an Order of Protection violation at Walmart.

Officers make a vehicle stop and arrest the driver for a Fail to Appear warrant.

Jan. 7th - Officers are dispatched to the Super 8 Hotel on a theft report. One female subject is charged.

Officers are dispatched to the Bates County Hospital on an assault. One person is charged.

Officers are dispatched to the 400 block of S. Delaware St. on a theft report.

Jan. 9th - Officers take an assault call in the 200 block of West Atkinson St.

Officers take a runaway juvenile report in the 500 block of S. Mechanic.

Jan. 10th - Officers take a leave without pay report from the Filling Station.

Minor injuries in accident near Rich Hill

Walter J. Koshko, 32, of Schell City received minor injuries in an accident on route B four miles East of Rich Hill yesterday afternoon. Around 5 p.m. Koshko was traveling westbound when his 1998 Cadillac traveled off the roadway, struck a sign, traveled back across the road and struck a tree.

The accident scene was under command of trooper D.W. Scotten of the Missouri Highway Patrol with assistance from the Bates County Sheriff's Department.

House fire West of Adrian

9:09 a.m. - Adrian, Butler, Amsterdam and Central Cass Fire Departments are in route to a reported house fire West of Adrian at the intersection of CR11002 and CR 7001. Early reports are that the structure is heavily involved- smoke can be seen from just North of Butler.

12:46 p.m. - The home was fully involved when firefighters arrived and is a total loss. The property is owned by Roy Olsen of Adrian.

Overnight fire damages Pippin residence

Just before 4 a.m. this morning, Butler, Rich Hill and Appleton City Fire Departments were called to the Don Pippin residence just off N Highway on CR2496 on the report of a fire in the upstairs portion of the home. The homeowner attempted to extinguish the fire, but had to vacate the residence due to extreme heat and smoke. No injuries were reported and crews were on the scene about 3 hours.

According to Butler Fire Chief Jim Henry there was heavy damage in the area of fire origin and heavy smoke and water damage throughout the home.
