Adrian Police weekly report

Jan. 4th - Warning for excessive speed at Business 71 and Main St.; warning for defective equipment at Business 71 and Eighth St.; warning for defective equipment at First and McColloh St.

Jan. 5th - Assisted Adrian Fire Department at 204 Bates St.; warning for speeding at Eighth and Clark; warning for speeding at Busines 71 and Main St.

Jan. 6th - Citation for excessive speed at Eighth and Clark.

Jan. 7th - Assisted stranded motorist on First St.; incident involving juveniles at Adrian School, referred to the Bates County Juvenile Office.

Jan. 8th - Dog complaint on Business 71 Highway; assisted with medical on Missouri St.; assisted with medical call on First St.; disturbance of loud music on Eighth St.; report of loud noise on Mulberry St., nothing found.

Update on Dr. Bashor

Butler dentist Dr. Ronald Bashor suffered multiple fractures and is reported to be in stable condition in St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City following a car accident in Henry County on January 10th. Anyone wishing to send a card may do so at the following address:

Adrian Chamber of Commerce Business Expo coming this Spring

To promote local business the Adrian Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the first ever Adrian C of C Business Expo set to happen April 16th at the Optimist Building. Everyone is invited to stop by and chat with local business owners to get to know them better and learn more about their expertise.

Booth space is also available outside of the building for businesses wanting to display large or outdoor type equipment as well.

House fire reported in Amoret

11:53 a.m. -  Crews have been dispatched on the report of a structure on fire on south Broadway street in Amoret. At this time, fire is reported to be contained in a bedroom; Amoret and Amsterdam Fire Departments have been called to the scene.

2:12 p.m. - Update- the mobile home was a complete loss. No injuries were reported.

Gearing up for the annual Rich Hill Alumni

Bates County Live spoke with Beverly Sullins, President of the Rich Hill Alumni committee today and she is excited to start planning the alumni banquet which is scheduled for May 28th. She pointed out that there is quite a bit of planning involved and invites alumni to attend a meeting next Wednesday, Jan. 19th. as the committee is looking for fresh ideas and folks to help with planning the event.

Senator David Pearce Named Chair of Committee on Education


Senator David Pearce, R-Warrensburg, was reappointed today as chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Education by Senate President Pro Tem Robert N. Mayer, R-Dexter.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to continue to serve as chair of the Senate Education Committee. Education is the benchmark by which our state’s future is determined, and it is important to me to be involved with that work,” Sen. Pearce said. “It was an honor to serve as Education chair last year and I look forward to continuing our hard work this year.”
The duties of the Committee on Education include the consideration of and reporting on all bill and issues that relate to education, including public schools, libraries, programs, and institutions of higher learning.
“I reappointed Sen. Pearce to continue to lead our state’s efforts when it comes to education,” Sen. Mayer said. “He takes his role and commitment to education very seriously and is ready to make sure funding follows the students, help enhance post-high school educational opportunities for students and follow through on goals set for where education should be in the year 2020.”
Senator Pearce’s other committee assignments include: Appropriations; Financial and Governmental Organizations and Elections; Veterans' Affairs, Emerging Issues, Pensions and Urban Affairs; and chair of the Joint Committee on Education.
Legislators’ work on these committees will begin as early as next week.
