McGennis Youth Center to present Dracula: The Twilight Years

McGennis Youth Center Theater Under the Stars will present Dracula: The Twilight Years this week. This 2 act play will have everyone laughing with our local talent! The show is this Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights starting at 8:00 p.m.

Tickets are $3.50 for adults, $2.50 for students. Bring your lawn chairs for an enjoyable night under the stars. Concessions will be served at intermission. McGennis Youth Center is located at 3181 S WW Hwy, Rich Hill, MO Approx 4 miles West of Rich Hill on A Hwy, then 3 ½ miles South of Sprague on WW Hwy.

Radio personality coming to Liberty Loyalists recruitment meeting

August 20th marks the date of the inaugural meeting and recruitment drive to be hosted by the Liberty Loyalists (www.libertyloyalists.com) from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Adrian Optimist building.

Statistics show that 4 out of 5 Americans agree with the Liberty Loyalist mission statement and membership is free for a limited time.

World renown radio host Rusty Humphries will be at the event and the evening is guaranteed to be enlightening and fun.

Applications open Sept. 1 for waterfowl hunting reservations

JEFFERSON CITY– Missourians who want to hunt ducks or geese on most wetland areas managed by the Conservation Department can start applying for reservations Sept. 1. Those who want to hunt at the three areas under the Quick Draw reservation system will enter the drawing closer to their hunt dates. All applications will be handled online again this year.

Hunters have from Sept. 1 through 15 to apply for waterfowl hunting reservations at Conservation Department-managed wetland areas. MDC will accept applications exclusively online again this year. You can apply for reservations at 12 wetland areas at www.mdc.mo.gov/node/9638. Drawing results will be available Oct. 1 at www.mdc.mo.gov/node/9632.

Early morning rollover in Drexel

Around 6:30 first responders were called to 2nd and Ethel in Drexel on a rollover accident and a report that a person was walking in a field. Upon arrival, responders found the driver of the pickup had exited the vehicle was out walking around, possibly dazed with what appeared to be minor injuries.

No driver information is available at this time. Drexel EMS was assisted on the scene by the Bates County Sheriff's Department and Cass County authorities.

Obituary - Alice Elizabeth Stitt


Alice Elizabeth Stitt, 70, Amsterdam, MO, died Friday, August 5, 2011 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at the Atkinson Chapel in Adrian, MO. Burial will be in West Point Cemetery, Amsterdam, MO. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Tuesday, August 9 at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Amsterdam Methodist Church, c/o the funeral home.

Alice Elizabeth Stitt was born December 16, 1940 at her Cass County home, to Alex Julius "Bill" Hite and Alta Elizabeth (Carnes) Hite. She grew up and moved around the Drexel area with her family. She attended the Drexel School and graduated in 1958 from Drexel High school. She went on to graduate business college in Kansas City, Missouri. She worked at Sydney's restaurant while she went to business school.


After college, Alice worked as a court reporter. She met her lifetime sweetheart, Melvin Stitt, during this time and it took her life in another direction. They married November 26, 1960 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. They lived many years in Merwin where they began their married life. In October 18, 1974 they welcomed their first child, John Melvin Stitt and then the family grew some more when their daughter, Ruth Ann Stitt was born March 25, 1979. She enjoyed raising her children as a homemaker. They moved to a place just outside of Amsterdam where she had her own quilting business for about 15 years.


Her daughter, Ruth and her husband, Dustin brought the joy of two grandchildren, John Albert, born November 4, 2001 and Tyler Jacob, born October 19, 2002. She always enjoyed them very much and thought the world of them. She always treasured the times they had together, along with other family when they got together. Spending time with family was always an important and favorite thing for her.


Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son and one brother. She is survived by one daughter, Ruth Crawford and her husband, Dustin, Amoret, MO; one sister, Anna Wells and her husband, Gerald, Granbury, TX and two grandchildren.

Amsterdam couple receives minor injuries in motorcycle accident

Around 10:40 this morning David and Elaine Zellmer of Amsterdam received minor injuries in a motorcycle accident on 52 highway at county road 2501. According to the report, the Zellmer's were westbound on 52 on a 1991 Yamaha motorcycle and lost control, dropping the bike while passing another vehicle.

Both refused treatment at the scene. The accident was investigated by trooper D. Jones of the Missouri Highway Patrol.
