Film crew focuses on Amsterdam

The Dutch film crew dines in Butler Wednesday evening- L to R:
Rob Rombout,  Ben Wolf,  Matthew Menter,  Peggy Buhr,
Rogier van Eck,  Donna and Randy Gregory
There's a movie being made not in Hollywood or New York, but all across the USA and it includes scenes featuring little 'ol Amsterdam, Mo.

That's right- a Dutch film crew is making a documentary about all the cities named Amsterdam in the United States and of course that would include a stop here in Bates County.

While dining at the Inn Building Wednesday night, Peggy Buhr along with Donna and Randy Gregory learned about the project that will include footage from all 16 Amsterdam's in the USA that stretch from New Jersey to California.

Besides filming, the crew had a good time visiting new found friends in and around Amsterdam and Butler. This included filming at the Amsterdam Cafe and the Fur, Fins & Feathers taxidermy shop on the South edge of town. And lots of still photos were taken as well.

From their blog- "We ended the night how all nights should end…good food and good drinks with new friends. Peggy and Donna, two great women of Butler MO, invited us to a meal at Majestic Cellars. It was such a spectacular evening. I recommend the steak and crab. After a long day of filming, dinners like this are so essential. A big thank you to everyone who made today so productive and memorable."

The crew's blog can be seen here www.amsterdamstoriesusa.com and it encompasses every detail of the project and their journey as it takes them across the USA in "One American Adventure" as it's been coined.

Adrian students get sobering lesson about drinking and driving

Drinking while driving certainly can have deadly consequences and Adrian R-3 students got an 'up front and personal look' at exactly what takes place when tragedy strikes.

With the help of the Highway Patrol, the Adrian police, Bates County EMS, LifeFlight and neighboring fire departments, the Adrian Fire Department hosted a demonstration this morning to show every aspect of working a deadly car crash.

The 'victims' (portrayed by actors) didn't fare so well. One fatality was taken away by the Bates County Coroner; one taken by medical helicopter with life threatening injuries; one by ambulance and the driver was handcuffed and arrested for DUI.

By studying the faces of onlookers, this scene certainly had impact and hopefully will serve as an ongoing reminder to be aware of the consequences of driving while under the influence.

Thanks not only goes to those mentioned above but also to the Bates County Sheriff's Department, the Adrian Schools, Adrian Fire Chief Gary Dizney, Adrian Tow and all others involved this morning.

Adrian Police Department weekly report

Oct. 24th - Warning for no registration at Eighth and Edith; citation for speed at First and Bus. 71; reported theft on Virginia; shoplifting at Thriftway.

Oct. 25th - Assisted Adrian Fire Department on a grass fire on Cemetery Road.

Police/fire Activity in Adrian this morning...

If you're in the Adrian area and have seen a medical helicopter along with fire personnel, police and some wrecked cars, fear not. It's a demonstration aimed to show school children the dangers of careless driving along with some other invaluable safety information.

Bates County Live will provide more about this demonstration later today.
