$13,000 in pot seized in traffic stop near Butler

Sheriff Anderson inspects packages found in the
trunk of the Bittner vehicle near Butler last week
January 9th an otherwise routine traffic stop on 71 highway near 52 ended with Chayne Bittner, 36, and Robin Bittner, 42 both of Noel, Mo. behind bars for possession of marijuana.

During the traffic stop the officer detected the smell of marijuana in the vehicle and when driver Chayne Bittner was confronted, he admitted there were several marijuana plants in the back seat.

At that point both were placed under arrest. The sheriff's department K-9 unit known as "Kilo" was dispatched to the scene where an additional 12 lbs of marijuana was found in the trunk.

The Bittners were transported to the Bates County Sheriff’s Office and the vehicle was towed. A more thorough search turned up an additional small amount of marijuana recovered from a purse in the vehicle.

Missing Trooper's Body Recovered

Colonel Ronald K. Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway
Patrol, announces the recovery of the body of Trooper Frederick F. “Fred”
Guthrie Jr. On Thursday, January 12, 2012, at approximately 2:00 p.m. the
body of Tpr. Guthrie was located in a brush pile south of where K-9 Reed
was recovered near the original search site.

"The recovery of Tpr. Guthrie's body will give closure and comfort to
the family, community, and members of the Patrol," said Col. Replogle. "I
would also like to thank everyone who helped or volunteered during the
search efforts."

So when is Winter going to get here?

Slightly above normal temps will continue through this week...

Today
Sunny. Highs in the upper 50s. South winds 15 to 20 mph. Gusts up to 30 mph in the afternoon.
Tonight
Partly cloudy in the evening then becoming mostly cloudy. Lows in the lower 40s. South winds 15 to 20 mph.

... Heightened fire danger Sunday afternoon...

The combination of seasonally warm temperatures... southwest winds between
15 and 25 mph... and relative humidity values around 30 percent will
enhance the risk for uncontrolled fires across parts of east central
Kansas and western and southwestern Missouri this afternoon. Persons
should avoid burning and use extra caution when dealing with
flammable materials and outdoor grilling activities. The fire danger
threat will diminish Sunday evening as the winds diminish and
relative humidity significantly increases.
