February 27th - Officers take a theft report from the car wash; 400 block of W College on a medical assist; 200 block of W Ohio on a 911 call; 300 block of E Oak on an animal complaint

5th Annual Casino Night March 31st

The 5th Annual Casino night benefit fund raiser will be held for the Bates county Children’s Center in Butler. The night will feature a Social Hour from 6:30 until 7:30 and the Casino will open at 7:30. Tickets are $25.00 in advance and may be purchased at the door the night of the event for $30.00. You must be 21 years of age to attend-the evening will include a live auction, slot machines, Plinko, and Live Mouse races. There will be free food and beverages with the evening menu catered by Butthead BBQ of Adrian.

Tickets to the 5th Annual Casino Night may be purchased from the Bates county Assessment and Treatment Children’s Center located at 413 West Howard Street in Butler, and from the Butler Juvenile Office at the Bates County Courthouse.

Obituary - Lee Holbrook

Lee Allen Holbrook, 69, Archie, MO, died Monday, March 5, 2012 at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville, MO. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, MO.

Bates County Republicans to meet Friday

The Bates County Republicans will meet for a Lincoln day meeting on Friday, March 9th at the Butler Senior Center beginning at 6pm. Please bring a covered dish. Special speakers will be Susie Spence, wife of Representative Dave Spence the candidate for Governor and Beverly Randell, wife of Bill Randell who is the candidate for Lt. Governor. Dues are payable at this time.

Ike Skelton portrait to be placed in Armed Forces Committee Room

Ike Skelton was honored today with an official unveiling of his portrait on Capitol Hill, paying homage to his 32 years as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, including 4 years as chairman. The unveiling ceremony was in the Cannon Caucus Room of the Cannon House Office Building, and Skelton’s portrait will later be hung in the Armed Services Committee Room.

The Armed Services Committee is one of the largest and most powerful congressional committees holding jurisdiction over many matters, including U.S. defense policy, research and development of weapons systems, and all the military services The Constitution grants Congress the power to declare war, to raise and support armies and to provide and maintain a Navy, and the Armed Services Committee has the responsibility to oversee those obligations for Congress.

Skelton served the state of Missouri for 34 years as a U.S. Representative from the 4th District, and before that as a State Senator for six years.

A DEVELOPING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM TO THE WEST WILL CAUSE SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WINDS TO INCREASE SIGNIFICANTLY ON TUESDAY ACROSS KANSAS AND MISSOURI. SUSTAINED WINDS AROUND 30 MPH WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY HIGHER GUSTS UP TO 45 MPH FROM LATE MORNING INTO THE AFTERNOON.

...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM TO 7 PM CST TUESDAY... A WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM TO 7 PM CST TUESDAY.

* TIMING: WIND SPEEDS WILL INCREASE RAPIDLY TUESDAY MORNING WITH MUCH HIGHER GUSTS FROM LATE MORNING THROUGH THE AFTERNOON.

* WINDS: SUSTAINED WINDS NEAR 30 MPH WILL BE COMMON WITH GUSTS AS HIGH AS 45 MPH.

* IMPACTS: DRIVING HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES...PARTICULARLY ON EAST TO WEST ORIENTED ROADWAYS SUCH AS INTERSTATE 70 OR HIGHWAY 50 WILL BE DIFFICULT. IN ADDITION...THESE STRONG WINDS COULD AID IN THE SPREAD OF ANY WILDFIRES TUESDAY WITH A VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER.

Archie Youth Football seeks donations...

Archie Youth Football is a tax exempt organization that helps teach the fundamentals of playing football to school age children. Consequently, the annual Archie Truck and Tractor Pull held each September assists in raising funds to promote the Archie Youth Football program.

The organization is currently collecting donations to host the pull and are asking for any donations the public would like to contribute. Last year’s donations provided new helmets for all the players, new pants and jerseys. More information may be found on the web at www.archieyouthfootball.com
